• Account Information – When you log in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture URL. We do not store your password.
• Translation Content – Selected text is sent to our server for translation. It is processed in real-time and not permanently stored.
• Preferences – Your target language selection is stored locally via Chrome's storage API.
• Anonymous Usage Data – Aggregated data (e.g., API call counts) to monitor service health.

2. How We Store and Protect Data

• Local Storage: Language preferences are stored only in your browser.
• Server Storage: Basic Google account information is stored securely in our database. We use HTTPS encryption and industry-standard security measures.
• Data Retention: You can log out at any time. Your account information will be removed from active tables upon logout.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your personal information to third parties, except:

• With your explicit consent;
• To comply with legal obligations;
• To protect our rights or the safety of our users;
• In connection with a merger or acquisition (with advance notice).

We use our own translation engine — your text is never shared with external services like Google Translate or Microsoft Translator.

4. Your Rights and Choices

• Access & Correction: View your account info via the extension. Contact us to request corrections.
• Logout & Deletion: Click "Sign Out" in the extension to log out. To request data deletion, email us at [email protected].
• Clear Storage: Clear extension data via Chrome Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear browsing data → Hosted app data.

5. Children's Privacy

This Extension is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

6. International Data Transfers

Our servers may be located outside your country of residence. By using this Extension, you consent to the transfer of your information to these servers. All transfers are encrypted and comply with applicable data protection laws.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the extension's popup interface or by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Chrome Permissions Explained

• storage – Saves your language preference locally in your browser.
• activeTab – Temporarily activated to inject the translation toolbar into the current webpage.
• host_permissions (<all_urls> and https://www.translatebuddy.net/*) – Allows text selection detection on any webpage and secure communication with our backend server.
